B2K Ride to Thrive represents a groundbreaking approach to tackling two critical challenges simultaneously: improving access to education for African children and nurturing athletic talent across the continent. By repurposing thousands of unclaimed stolen bicycles from UK police forces, we create a sustainable pipeline that transforms potential waste into life-changing opportunity.
The educational impact is profound. Take, for example, 10-year-old Sarah from rural Kenya, who currently walks 9 kilometres each way to school, spending nearly four hours a day in transit. This exhausting journey leaves her too tired to concentrate and often unable to attend during the rainy season, when paths become impassable. A bicycle reduces her commute to under 30 minutes, dramatically improving her attendance, academic performance, and personal safety.
Beyond education, B2K also paves the way for athletic excellence. The same geographic and climatic conditions that have produced world-class East African runners—high altitude, rugged terrain, and heat adaptation—are ideal for developing elite cyclists. In collaboration with Strava, we track performance metrics to identify outstanding talent early and support their progression towards international competition.
Our phased rollout begins in Kenya, with a structured expansion plan across the continent. With strong leadership, strategic partnerships across government and sport, and sustainable funding mechanisms, B2K Ride to Thrive is set to transform thousands of lives—and potentially uncover the next generation of cycling champions.
